Did you know that Steveston is home to its very own Arthur Erickson building?! Who knew? Actually, Larry did. He always does. Yes, Manoah Village was designed by the famous Canadian architect in the late 1970s. But that isn’t the only thing this neighborhood has to offer!
Named after the founder of Steveston, Manoah Steves, the neighborhood centres on Manoah Steves Elementary School and the adjoining Steves Park. The area was developed in the early 1970s and was one of the first planned subdivisions in the Steveston area. Developers succeeded in articulating a low-density plan that was still able to deliver a variety of housing types including 3-storey apartments, spacious townhomes and large –lot single family (60’ frontages). Although many of the older single family homes are now being replaced by new development, the low-density character of the neighborhood is preserved by an inability to subdivide.
Steves Park appeals to many buyers for many reasons. Residents in search of recreation and leisure enjoy many access points to the West Dyke Trail. The Trail presents spectacular views of the Sturgeon Banks Marshes as well as the Northshore Mountains (and the famed ‘Oreo Cows’ – take a walk, you’ll see what we mean). Cyclists and walkers can follow the trail into Steveston Village or in the opposite direction towards the Richmond Olympic Oval. Families are drawn to the area because the variety of product types accommodates growth whether it size or income; being able to afford ‘moving up’ in the neighborhood you currently live in is a welcome benefit. With regards to public transit, commuters can access local bus routes at various points throughout the subdivision.
